Entering the Secret Place: An Introduction to Tehillim

Tehillim, Hebrew for "Praises," is a project born out of love and worship for the Most High.

"A Thousand Fall," from Psalm 91, is rendered in the original Hebrew text: Yippōl miṣṣiddəḵā elep̄ (יִפֹּל מִצִּדְּךָ אֶלֶף).

Yippōl does not simply mean "to fall"; it signifies a sudden collapse, a total failure of strength. Miṣṣiddəḵā means "at your side," but its root refers to the side of the body — describing a danger so close it brushes against you, occurring within your most intimate space. Elep̄ is the number one thousand, which in the Bible represents totality, an immense multitude.

God invites us into the Sēṯer, the "secret place" — a visceral, intimate protection. Even when everything falls, we are guarded. Those in the secret place remain standing, not by their own strength, but because their foundation is the Eternal One.
